with a particular emphasis on the Arab region. In this context, on
Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Naif Arab University for Security Sciences
(NAUSS) held a scientific lecture titled «Migration and Climate Changes»,
featuring researchers from the International Organization for Migration
(IOM) and the Arab Center for Technical Cooperation on Migration and
Border Management.
The lecture emphasized exploring the links between climate change
and human mobility in the Middle East. This aligns with the global
trend that emphasizes the Arab and global response to climate change
reaching a crossroads. The Sixth Assessment Report issued by the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change suggests that average global
temperatures are likely to exceed 1.5-degrees Celsius in the coming years,
significantly amplifying the impacts of climate change. This deepens the
interconnections between migration and human mobility, calling for the
study and analysis of potential links between climate change and human
mobility in all its forms.
In light of this, the lecture encompassed significant discussion topics
derived from the participants› contributions, accompanied by a concise
overview of the crucial facts and evidence-based knowledge presented
throughout the lecture.
